Nvidia buys $3 billion of Meta stock to deepen Muse ties

Nvidia joins Meta's roughly $95 billion stock sale as the two firms expand Meta's Nvidia infrastructure for its Muse models.

The answer

Nvidia will invest $3 billion in Meta's stock sale and expand their Muse infrastructure partnership.

Nvidia is tying its chips more tightly to Meta's AI models. It will put $3 billion into Meta's stock offering, which Meta announced on Monday, 26 October, as a sale of about $95 billion to fund AI investments. Axios reported the investment, and a second source also put the sale at about $95 billion.

The partnership centres on Meta's Muse models. The two companies plan to make training and inference faster and cheaper. Nvidia says Muse already runs on its infrastructure, so the deal extends an existing relationship rather than starting one.

Meta will expand its Nvidia deployment to include Vera Rubin and Vera CPUs, Spectrum-X networking and BlueField-4. Neither company has disclosed quantities. Nvidia's announcement also gives no purchase price, share count or ownership percentage for the $3 billion stake, so the commercial terms of the investment are not public.

Beyond hardware, both companies are considering work on Nvidia's OpenShell architecture for deploying agents safely, along with the Sentry monitoring tool. Neither project has been committed to in the announcement.

The deal lands in the same week as Meta's share sale and an AI-stock selloff. Meta fell 7% and Nvidia fell 4.4% in that sell-off.

The Insider view

For Nvidia, the deal turns a supplier relationship into a shareholding and ties more of Meta's Muse workloads to its platform. The named products, from Vera Rubin to BlueField-4, cover compute, networking and data processing, so the expansion is broad rather than a single component sale. For Meta, the stake supports a build-out that Meta says it needs to fund, and the stated payoff is lower cost per training run and per inference.

Rival chip and networking suppliers cannot size the win, because Meta has not disclosed quantities. Investors should watch three things: the terms of the $3 billion stake, which the announcement leaves out; the volumes behind Vera Rubin; and whether the OpenShell and Sentry work moves from consideration to delivery.
