GPT-6 turns ChatGPT's 1.2 billion weekly users into an interface test
OpenAI is betting that charts, forms and calculators inside chat will keep its huge audience engaged, and it is rolling the change out to all tiers within a day.
The answer
OpenAI launched GPT-6 in ChatGPT with Intelligent UI, answering with interactive interfaces as well as text.
OpenAI is putting a new product layer in front of the largest consumer AI audience on the market. The company says more than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT weekly, and on 7 October 2026 it announced GPT-6 with "Intelligent UI", a feature that lets the chatbot answer with working interfaces instead of paragraphs.
According to Tech Startups, which describes Intelligent UI as "a new way for ChatGPT to respond with interactive interfaces rather than conventional text alone", ChatGPT can now return charts, forms, buttons and calculators. Example uses include explaining bicycle components, building a personal wardrobe, splitting a restaurant bill and creating a financial calculator.
Speed is the second selling point. In OpenAI's internal testing, GPT-6 Instant starts answering about 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant on questions that need web searches. The figure comes from OpenAI itself, and the notes give no independent verification.
The rollout is staged by price tier. It began on 7 October for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users. Free and Go users were scheduled to receive it on 8 October, so the gap between paying and non-paying customers is about a day.
The scope is narrow. The update applies to ChatGPT only. It does not cover the models used in Work and Codex.
The Insider view
The commercial logic is retention. A calculator or form that the user can keep working in gives ChatGPT more of the task than a block of text does. Splitting a bill or building a financial calculator are jobs people may otherwise send to separate apps, and a chatbot that finishes them keeps the session inside OpenAI's product.
The exposure falls on single-purpose tools in those categories, though the notes offer no evidence yet of users switching. Watch whether OpenAI extends Intelligent UI to Work and Codex, the business-facing surfaces left out of this release, and whether the 44% speed gain holds up outside the company's own tests.
