Anthropic is putting $100 million behind the idea that the bottleneck in enterprise AI is people, not models. The company says its new Claude Frontier Academy will train 10,000 "Frontier Deployed Engineers" by the end of 2027, aimed at closing the enterprise AI talent gap.

The [announcement on 2 October](https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-frontier-academy) names eight organisations for the first cohorts: Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk. Cohorts are running in San Francisco, New York and London. The list mixes the consultancies that sell AI projects with the banks and drugmakers that buy them.

The programme runs in stages. Participants first complete multi-day in-person training with Anthropic engineers, covering a simulated enterprise deployment, a security review and a graded practical assessment. Passing earns the Claude Resident Engineer badge.

Next comes a 12-week residency in which the engineer leads a real Claude project inside their own organisation, with Anthropic support. A final assessment then decides the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge. Anthropic expects the first of those awards in early 2027.

Steve Corfield, Anthropic's Global Head of Business Development and Partnerships, framed the pitch around small teams. "A small team of high-agency people with the right skills, access to Claude, and a deep understanding of how their business runs can transform an entire company," he said.

The timing sits alongside other commercial moves. A day earlier, Anthropic announced that Barclays is scaling Claude across operations and client service. The company is preparing a November IPO and launched Claude Sonnet 5.5 on 28 September.

## The Insider view

Anthropic is moving into the part of the stack that decides whether licences get used. Each residency produces a live Claude project inside a customer, led by someone trained by Anthropic and credentialed under its brand. That is a distribution channel as much as a training scheme.

The cohort list matters. Putting Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Deloitte and McKinsey in the room means the firms that advise on AI strategy will hold Anthropic-issued badges. Banks such as Morgan Stanley and the Commonwealth Bank get in-house capacity. With Barclays announced a day earlier and an IPO planned for November, expect investors to read the academy as evidence that Anthropic is building enterprise demand, not just selling models. Watch the first badge awards in early 2027, and how many of the 10,000 places fill.
